The belladiva story so far...
Early in 2008, a group of sopranos met in opera class and decided to bust through the walls of the conservatorium to form a girl group with a difference.
Following the success of groups like The Ten Tenors and inspired by a trip to Paris during the Fete de la Musique, opera singer Alicia Cush decided that she couldn't let the boys have all the fun! Upon hearing that the festival was heading to Brisbane, Alicia realised that it was the perfect opportunity to get together with Brisbane's best up-and-coming young sopranos, form the glamourous belladiva and take sublime operatic music to the masses. belladiva debuted at the Fete de la Musique on June 21, 2008.
The girls have gone from strength to strength in the past three years, performing regularly at high profile events including the Brisbane Festival, Channel 9's Carols in the City, Queensland Pops Orchestra concerts, The Woodford Folk Festival, Starlight Five Chefs Dinner, Brisbane Big City BBQ, Australia Day celebrations, feature concerts, corporate and charity events.
The girls of belladiva are vibrant and compelling solo performers in their own right, backed by years of national & international performance experience in opera, musical theatre and pop. They have a special dynamic and energy that can only be found amongst a group of friends who love performing together and share the same passion for pop-opera music. While studying at the Queensland Conservatorium, this group of sopranos bonded through their desire to break with classical music traditions and deliver their own style of opera to the world.
in 2010, belladiva embarked on a recording project of their favourite songs from the worlds of pop, opera and classical music. Their debut EP 'secret chord' features their own unique crossover arrangements of classics sung with sophisticated harmonies and distinctive angelic tones.
With a passion for beautiful music and a live music experience full of diva flair, the siren song of belladiva continues to lure new fans worldwide, creating a new brand of chic opera.
